Merkel is going on a political climate and enviromental study, as many other political leaders she went together with Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Greenland Premier Hans Enoksen to a short trip in Ilulissat, Greenland.
Ilulissat is situated close to the famous Jakobshavn Icefjord which also are listed on the FN-Unesco world heritage. The Icefjord sends incredible 35-40 square kilometers ice into the open sea every year. The purpose of the visit was to change attitudes from other leaders of the world and set focus on the climate changing debate. The meeting in Greeland is a part of a warm-up for the big climate meeting set in Copenhagen 2009.
Especially in Greenland, the people experience the changings and the hunters have diffilculties on going out on the ice with their dogsledge because of the improving icemelting.
